I collected baseball cards from the late '80s through 2002. Then I went to college and when I came out, I was lost. There were too many brands, sets, choices, relics, autos, parallels, variations. It was a turn off. However, I slowly made my way back. So here is my attempt to venture back into the hobby. I'll buy a few packs of cards here and there, comment on some cards I have, send out some TTMs, and follow the progress of my Topps Yankees Project.

Buyer's remorse
I recently picked up a Tino relic on eBay...except it's not a Tino relic. I knew this at the time. I was not surprised. What I couldn't figure out is why the heck I spent money, albeit $3, on this.
See, the card has a jersey swatch of Curt Schilling. I know that Schilling is sick right now, and I do wish him a healthy, speedy recovery. Baseball-wise, I'm not a fan of his for many reasons. I won't deny his talent, and he was amazing in 2001, especially during the World Series. I'd probably feel a lot differently if Soriano's Game 7 HR off him held up. Much less animosity.
Then there were the Boston years, where he went from annoying to unbearable.
I'm still glad to add a new Tino to my collection, but not sure if I'm a serious enough player collector to truly feel ok about owning this card.
Think of it this way: Tino looks all the better for the comparison...
ReplyDeleteI think it still counts as a Tino hit.
