On Monday, I shared a Tyler Austin TTM success that I was (and still am) really excited about. It got me thinking a bit. Why was I so excited? I already owned a few Austin autos.
I realized it's like this for me in a lot of instances. Although I may own a certified autograph, I'll still try the player TTM. Part of it is the thrill of the chase. Putting in the effort to write and send a letter, choosing the card to send, and waiting patiently for it to return, not knowing if you'll ever see the card again once you drop it in the mailbox.
It's a risk. It's a rush.
And the reward makes it that much more worth it. It's not to say that I don't enjoy an auto I buy on eBay for $1.99 + $2.50 shipping. I just like the TTM process more.
It's sort of like growing your own veggies in a garden. It can be more satisfying eating them instead of store-bought veggies, knowing you saved a few bucks and put in the work to grow the produce.
Here are a few more instances of cards I own both a TTM auto and a certified auto.
Absolutely 100% can agree with that, I love any autographs but the best ones are the ones you have to earn TTM. Its my favorite part of the hobby outside of getting to meet players, and even when I get out of the hobby from time to time I love to have some things in the mail, makes for a great surprise.
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. I personally love IP autos the most with TTM autos a close second and certified ones a distant third.
ReplyDeleteI definitely love the thrill and gamble of TTMs, sometimes it doesn't work out, but when it works out it REALLY works out.
Although I will admit that after I've gotten an IP/TTM of a player and get their certified auto I end up feeling a tad disappointed with the cert auto. Unless it's Luis of course lol.
Totally agree with you on this. My usual response to getting a certified auto in a pack is "meh."
ReplyDeleteI loved chasing IP and TTM autos back in the 1980s. I'm not into it now, but only because I'm focused on spending my card money on cards rather than postage for TTM autos.
