Yankees starting pitcher Chris Capuano signed my card in about three weeks time. Honestly, I was surprised Capuano was re-signed by the Yanks, let alone for $5mil. I can't imagine many teams were lining up for him. Seems like they could have gotten him for half that.
He's a fine option for a fifth starter, as he'll likely throw about 150 league average innings if given the opportunity. If he replicates last year's performance for the team, I'd be happy with that (4.25 ERA, 7.5 K/9). He's not a guy that's going to block Bryan Mitchell, Ivan Nova when he's healthy, or even Luis Severino if they offer a better option, which is why the one year contract isn't a huge deal.
Either way, I really appreciate the return, and wish Chris the best of luck this season.
You can never have too much depth. The Pirates have a logjam in their rotation too. It is just a talking point for Spring Training as we will probably end up using 8 or 9 starters over the course of the season.
