I collected baseball cards from the late '80s through 2002. Then I went to college and when I came out, I was lost. There were too many brands, sets, choices, relics, autos, parallels, variations. It was a turn off. However, I slowly made my way back. So here is my attempt to venture back into the hobby. I'll buy a few packs of cards here and there, comment on some cards I have, send out some TTMs, and follow the progress of my Topps Yankees Project.

Glad I don't have a Marlins trading partner...
...because if I did, I probably wouldn't have the few Jose Fernandez cards that I do have in my collection. I would have sent them off in a trade package, but now I'll probably hold on to them. I don't know for what, but having a couple of these off the side to remind me of what could have been seems like the right thing to do.
I was just going about my business yesterday, packing our car up for a return trip home after a quick weekend at my parents' house, when I took a looked at my phone and saw the push notification alert about Fernandez. Whoa. It was definitely one of those moments where you just stop in your tracks trying to process it.
I can't say I saw him very much other than through highlights. I know he was a phenomenal talent and had a big personality. And I know that he's gone way, way too soon.
RIP Jose Fernandez.
This was really sad to hear, I couldn't believe the news. Like you said, it stops you in your tracks. I was stunned. Very sad. And yeah, I'm holding on to my Jose cards as well.
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated note, do you still need the Don Mattingly 1993 Topps Finest card from your wantlist? Leave a comment on my blog if you do and I'll set it aside for you.
I do still need that one. Although, I can't seem to find your email address on your blog or in your profile.
