Tino Tuesday #24: 2000 Fleer Ultra #179

What better way to honor #24 on this 24th Tino Tuesday (on Jan 24th!) than a shot showing the big 2-4 on his back? This is a cool horizontal shot from 2000 Fleer Ultra. I like this card a lot. The font may be a little too foily, but I do like the style, the slant, and all CAPS. It's easy to read. It works very well in this particular shot with the negative space. I like the lack of border and the different shot than the classic swing taken from the first base line. I wouldn't want all my cards to look like this, but it's a nice change of pace from the norm.

Tino chose to wear #24 with the Yanks because his previously number, 23, was not issued when he came to NY, as Don Mattingly had just retired. The number was eventually retired anyways. When Tino came back to the Yankees in 2005, Ruben Sierra had been wearing #24, but as a sign of respect give it up for Tino.

The current Yankees #24, Robinson Cano, is certainly wearing the number well.
