Housewarming gift from P-Town Tom

Sweet mesh trucker hat, Tino.
After I moved, P-Town Tom reached out request my new address. He sent me a very welcome house-warming gift!

Tom is one of those guys who always pays attention and keeps an eye out for cards that fit your PCs. This package had a little of everything.

First off, some cool Tinos. The 1994 Fleer is a personal favorite of mine. I love the design - one of the best of the 1990s - and it also reminds me of the summer of '94 when Sunoco offered their Fleer set for filling up with gas. I used to get some many of these cards from my dad's co-workers.

And as far as I can tell, this Tino is from an away game at Yankee Stadium. Tino looks to be in a HR trot - he went deep against the Yanks on May 1 and 2, as well as July 21. However, he could have also been scoring off of someone else's HR. Part of the reason Tino was brought to NY was because he always torched them as a visiting player. The Yanks took notice.

Tom also included a few minor league autos, including Ty Hensley. The Jagielo is very cool too.
And as he usually does, Tom included something for Joey - a full set of 1980 TCMA All-Time Yankees. This set is awesome! I'll definitely add it to Joey's binder.

Thanks for the gift, Tom!

I've got gas...

...station cards.
Tricked you.

I still hit up the Lisia app once in awhile. I think many of us can agree the site has jumped the shark for the most part, but once in a while, there are deals to be had.

For a measly amount of credits, I won this cool Sunoco/Coca-Cola 2001 Dream Team set. I actually figured it was a little older than that, but 2001 it is. I feel like there is a massive lack of oddball sets like this nowadays...cards on cereal boxes, in Twizzlers, at gas stations, Denny's, etc. I'm sure it has to do with the Topps-exclusive, but stuff like this is great. Here is the Dream Team set:

I remember the 1994 Fleer Sunoco set as well, which were just Fleer base cards without the foil. My dad's co-workers always used to give them to him for me every time they filled up. I probably got 2-3 per week.

What are some of the better oddball sets you remember in the not-so-distant past?

Fill ‘er up, and I’ll take some cards too

Back in 1994, Sunoco offered Fleer baseball cards when you purchased gas. I can’t remember if you got a free card or had to buy them. They might have even come in a three pack or something. I just remember that the guys at my dad’s work would always send these home with my dad for me. I seriously got like five or six of these a week. It was really cool of them.

The other day, I came across the Don Mattingly from this set. It made me want the entire set, so I found it on eBay for a few bucks shipped. It’s funny to see the checklist looking back. Some guys were no-brainers, like Griffey and Frank Thomas. However, other guys were interesting choices…Jay Bell, Kruk, Van Slyke. Although looking back, I’m sure those guys were the biggest names at the time.

In the 24 card set, there were three Phillies! I guess that’s how collectors feel nowadays when there are more Yankees in a set. The cards themselves were the same exact design as 1994 Fleer, but did not include any foil on the front. They were basically Fleer Opening Day cards.

I wish gas stations would do something like this nowadays. For $4 a gallon, I should well get a damn card with my purchase. I suppose there wouldn’t be much demand for them these days though. Do any of you guys remember these cards?
