O No!!! Not Another PWE! (said no one ever)

First off, I've been awful at updating my blog. Since my return to regularly blogging, I think I've done a decent job of at least posting something 4-6 times a week. It's never much, but it's something in an attempt to stay relevant and remind you guys that I'm always here to take your unwanted Yankees.

Recently, Ryan of "O No! Not Another Orioles Blog" showed off some Bowman Platinum cards, and was nice enough to set aside this Gary Sanchez for me. Sanchez is the Yanks top prospect, and has advanced to AA this year. Overall, his year hasn't been great, but he's still a decent prospect. He's only 20, and in 13 AA games he's hitting .269 with a .406 OBP.

 Sadly, this is the same photo Topps/Bowman has used in a bunch of his cards.

Tino Tuesday #38: October 1997 Beckett

Who said Tino Tuesday just needs to show off cards? I recently got a package in the mail from Ryan of "O No! Another Orioles Blog" with two old Beckett magazines featuring Tino. This is the October 1997 issue, when he graced the cover after his monster 1997 season of 44 HRs and 141 RBIs. There was also a January 1999 issue of the Yanks celebrating their 1998 World Series win.

I'm certain I had this issue back in the day, but I'm sure I have since thrown it out. I'm thrilled to have it again! I haven't had a new Beckett in well over 10 year, and this certainly brought me back. I immediately flipped through it to see what the hot cards at the time were, and it's funny to look back. Jose Cruz Jr RCs, Travis Lee, Ben Grieve, McGwire...these guys were all amongst the hottest cards out there. Just a good reminder that the next big thing isn't always guaranteed amongst all the Harper mania.

There was a really nice write-up about Tino, and his cards were basically at all-time high in terms of value. His 1988 Topps Traded RC was "valued" at $6.

It was fun to take this trip down memory lane, and I plan to highlight a lot more of the content from these magazines in future posts. Ryan, thanks again for sending these along.

Trade Review: O Yes, CanO and more '68 Topps Game

I just completed my second trade with Ryan from"'O" No!!! Another Orioles Blog. A while back, we completed a trade and he mentioned he had another card I might be interested in. Unfortunately I didn't have much to offer at the time, until I recently bought a blaster of Lineage and ended up with something he liked.

See, the card I wasn’t able to trade for is the Robinson Cano below. It is one of those leather name plates from 2011 Topps. Ryan told me to find him a good relic for it, and I think I came through. I pulled a sweet Eddie Murray orange ’75 mini relic from the blaster, and a trade was born.

In addition to the Cano, Ryan sent me three 1968 Topps Game cards – Jim Lonborg, Gary Peters, and Richie Allen. The Peters is a dupe, so if you have any ‘68s Games to trade me I’d gladly swap it.

Ryan also included this sweet 1966 Topps Ruben Amaro. Thanks for a great trade, Ryan! Enjoy the Murray relic.

A few weeks ago, Ryan from "'O" No!!! Another Orioles Blog pulled a Robinson Cano framed bat relic. It looked beautiful and I immediately sent a note off to Ryan. After a short exchange, I was able to find a few Ripkens he didn't have, and a trade was born. I have to thanks Ryan - I didn't have a relic to offer in return and he still accepted my offer. I know that he could have held out for more and I appreciate him making the trade.

I was surprised that the mini-framed card fit so nicely in the frame. I'm used to the A&G ones where the relic card fits loosely and moves around. I like this one quite a bit more.
