Part 2 of the Zippy Zappy package

Here is part two of the epic package sent by Zippy Zappy. There were a bunch of cards, and I figured this was a nice sampling:

I really like these mini Chrome Refractors. I’m not a huge fan of mini cards at all, but I’ve been all for these so far. I can’t wait for Hensley to get back on the mound next season. I expect big things from him.
Hold the phones! I’m pretty sure this is a 2012 Bowman Chrome Blue Ice card. I expected the pattern to be the same as the Silver Ice, but they are definitely different. This reminds me of an old Upper Deck HoloGRFX card. Either way, a stop-in-your-tracks card.
Orange! I love Orange Refractors. Love them. I need to aggregate them all because I must be getting close to having at least one full team set.
This card brings back a lot of memories. When we were five or six, my sister and I used to fight over this card. See, I had this version of the card, but Reggie was an Oakland A. She had the version with the Yankees. And she would never, ever let me have it.
These cards always amused me because of the blue fabric.
I really need to get Eduardo to sign this. It’s begging for his autograph.

My first 2013 Topps Pro Debut! Love these sets even though the logic behind “Pro Debut” is off.
Kenny, it’s all gold (or orange or blue ice). Thanks again, my friend.

Wax Packin Doon

The king of paper products, Napkin Doon, sent me a great package of cards the other day. He actually sent me some cards I would be interested in, instead of moldy, gum-stained cards. As has been his thing as of late, Nap also included some packs of unopened, high-end products. And by that I mean 1990 Topps, 1990 Donruss, and 1990 Topps Big.

Let’s start with the wax. Literally, wax. I was excited at the prospect of adding some HOFers to my son’s binder. And as luck would have, the first card in the 1990 Topps pack, complete with a piece of gum stuck on it, was Andre Dawson. Sigh. This would have been perfect for the binder, but of course it has to be stained. Maybe I’ll still add it, as it’s cool to show was happened to cards when gum was included.

The next card was pretty cool too. A Sammy Sosa rookie. We know he was a big roid head, but still a pretty cool card to have.
I’ll also show this Alan Trammel. I’m showing Trammel on his back on purpose, as that’s always how I’ll view him now after Donnie Baseball tackled him.
The best cards of the next two packs are below. Topps Big are extra fun because they are so easy to store. The Schmidt card is cool. I actually didn’t know he retired in ’89…I thought he was around until like ’93 or something. Good to know.
Nap also sent a nice stack of Yanks. The highlight is this sweet dual relic/auto of Eduardo Nunez.
He also included two lovely vintage Yanks of Jim Bouton and Jack Cullen. They are both in really, really good condition.
Thanks, Nap. Enjoy the Hank Blalock refractor I sent in return. I wish I was joking.

Secret Santa haul

I apologize that this has taken so long to post my Secret Santa haul from Bad Wax’s Secret Santa/Hanukkah Harry. I finally found a few minutes between changing poopy diapers to scan the cards and provide a quick write-up.

My Secret Santa was Cam from Cardboard Heaven. If you haven’t checked out his blog, do so. He definitely has one of the best blog headers out there. I’m envious of it and wish I had the Photoshop skills to create something as cool.

I gave a list of a few wish list cards, but I’m always happy with any and all Yankees. Cam didn’t disappoint. He sent a fantastic haul. Here are the highlights:

My favorite card is definitely this 2011 Eduardo Nunez Auto Refractor. The signature is on-card which is sweet. I’ve never been able to get Nunez TTM, so I really wanted a 2011 auto of his.

Next up, a framed mini relic of ARod. This is only my second ARod relic! Pretty sweet card. The A&G relics are always well done.

Jesus! These Bowman Futures cards are really growing on me.
Liquorfractors!

And a big stack of Yanks that I was too lazy to scan. The stack was full of many of my favorite Yanks – Jeter, Mattingly, Yogi, DiMaggio. I can honestly say that none of the cards were dupes either!

Cam – thanks for the great Secret Santa gift!
