A pair of holograms on a fine Sunday

I’ve said it before, but I’ve always been a huge fan of hologram cards. I wish they caught on more, but they ended up being a very early ‘90s fad. I recently picked up a lot of two on eBay, but from Upper Deck. Both are Hall of Famers. One is Hank Aaron, one is Ted Williams. Pretty Sweet. Unfortunately they are impossible to scan, but they look pretty sweet in person. I promise.

A Piece of the Series - Bernie Williams

I've been working on this 11-card 2000 Upper Deck HoloGRFX A Piece of the Series for a long time now, and it's nearing completion. I finally landed this Bernie Williams. For being such a big part of the Yankees 1990's post-season success, Bernie actually had a really quiet 1999 World Series. He only hit .231 with no extra base hits or RBIs. For someone who has 22 post season HRs and 80 RBIs, that's a bit surprising. However, the Yanks swept the Braves despite Bernie's lack of production.

I’m not really sure what the three little brown dots on the base are. They could be dirt specs. They almost look like rust.

Shiver me timbers, matey! A trade with Pirates Treasure Room

I recently made a trade with Brian of Pirates Treasure Room. The dude has a sick collection of Pirates cards especially Jason Bay and Andrew McCutchen. He pulled a Jordan Cote Elite Auto that I wanted, and I send him and Andrew McCutchen sketch card in return. Brian also threw in some other sweet Yanks.

Here’s an unexpected Ian Kennedy relic. I sort of wish the Yanks kept him instead of Joba or Hughes in the Granderson deal. However, I’m a realist and know that he wouldn’t nearly be as good of a pitcher in the AL East as he is in the NL West. It’s just how it is. Sorry.

Here are a few of the other Yanks he included as well.

Thanks for a great trade!

Trade with $30 A Week Habit

I recently A while back I made a trade with Robert of $30 A Week Habit. I’ve just been incredibly slow in posting about recent trades, and I apologize to everyone I’ve traded with. Anyhow, Robert had a few Jeters I wanted, as well as a Dellin Betances 2012 Topps Gold. He even threw in a sweet 1998 Topps Minted In Cooperstown Tino!

I didn’t have either Jeter. Triple Threads is always a set I don’t often receive cards from. The New Age Performers from ’12 Heritage is pretty sweet too.

Dellin has looked like crap so far in AAA this year. I hope he turns it around, as he has a big time arm.

Thanks, Robert!

Rizzuto bat relic

I love Phil Rizzuto cards. I have three of his vintage cards, as well as one of my favorite TTM autos from him. One thing I didn’t have until now is a relic. I found this 2010 National Chicle bat relic for a ridiculously low price…it was $1.99 + .99 shipping on eBay. Come on, people. How did no one else bid? Like I care. It’s a really nice card. It’s classly looking, and the die cut “C” over the relice is pretty cool. The back says that it was used in a game. I was a little worried it might have been one of those dumb seat relics, but it says game used. Probably Old Timer’s Day or something. Either way, it’s a sweet card and I was really fortunate to pick it up for such a low cost. Now I just need to find a Rizzuto jersey card.

Tino Tuesday #36: 2004 Bazooka Blasts Bat Relic

Do you ever have those cards you've seen a million times on eBay but never picked up? I had seen this 2004 Bazooka Blasts for years but never indulged. It's probably because Tino is a Devil Ray on the card. It's an ok card otherwise. Pretty much what you'd expect from Bazooka. I do like that their were relics in what was a pretty affordable, low-end set.

Anyhow, I finally bit the bullet and picked it up. If nothing else, I have the relief of not getting stressed out every time I see this card on eBay when I'm looking for new Tino cards.

Sketch card - Andrew McCutchen

I recently made a trade with Brian from Pirates Treasure Room. I did an Andrew McCutchen sketch card for him in exchange for a Jordan Cote (Yankees prospect) auto. I am lazy and have yet to highlight the trade on my blog, but in the meantime, here is the sketch card that I sent Brian:
