Great scene from The Sandlot |

I collected baseball cards from the late '80s through 2002. Then I went to college and when I came out, I was lost. There were too many brands, sets, choices, relics, autos, parallels, variations. It was a turn off. However, I slowly made my way back. So here is my attempt to venture back into the hobby. I'll buy a few packs of cards here and there, comment on some cards I have, send out some TTMs, and follow the progress of my Topps Yankees Project.

Boggs shiny from '94
I wanted to quickly show off a cool card I recently rediscovered in a binder of Yankees from the 1990s that I occasionally thumb through. This Wade Boggs card is from 1994 Pacific Prisms Silver. It reminds me a lot of the current Topps Platinum Diamonds, except the design pattern is circular...and is 17 years old.

TTM Blast from the Past: Don Larsen
Last Sunday's Yankees Old Timer's Day gave me some inspiration to dig through a few autographs I have of past Yankee greats. This is one of my favorites. Mr. Larsen signed this Fleer Greats of the Game for me several years ago TTM, and it looks awesome.

Yanks are rolling!
With Interleague play thankfully entering its last weekend, the Yanks find themselves rolling. They are 12-4 against the NAAAAtional League and have now won six straight. I heard an interesting stat tonight after the game - in the last 21 games, the Yankees have allowed four or fewer runs in 18 of those. Regardless of who you are, you're going to win a lot of games that way. Considering their rotation right now includes soft tossing Sweaty Freddy Garcia, head case AJ Burnett, rookie Ivan Nova and minor league journey man Brian Gordon (who?) it makes it even more impressive.
The Yanks rebounded from a frustrating six game losing streak last month and have been on a tear since. Not bad considering Hughes hasn't pitched since April (but will be back next week), big fatty Bart Colon has been on the DL (returns tomorrow), Jeter has been on the DL (returns Monday), Rafael Soriano hasn't pitched since April (due back right after the AS break) and Joba is down for the year with TJ surgery. The other day Cashman was asked what he is looking for on the trade market, and he responded, "I don't think I can find anything that's better than what I have coming off the DL." I tend to agree.

TTM Success: Yankees Relief Prospect
The TTM successes have been few and far between these days, so I was excited to see a SASE show up in my mailbox yesterday. It was postmarked from Charleston, SC, which I knew meant a Yankees prospect from the Riverdogs. After only nine days, 2010 fifth round draft pick and promising reliever Tommy Kahnle signed my 2011 Topps Pro Debut - my first success on a card from this set!
Kahnle is having a decent season after being lights out in Rookie ball last year. His 4 ERA is a little high, but he does have 57Ks in 45 innings. Hopefully he is promoted to Tampa this season and sees time in Double A next year. He's a bullpen arm to watch for sure.
