The Great Wall of Cardboard

Yesterday, I had a meeting at a fairly prominent office in NYC. I won't bore you with the details, but upon sitting down in the conference room, I look at the wall opposite me, and stop in my tracks. The wall was completely littered with iconic basketball cards. Now, I no longer collect basketball, but from 4th-8th grade, it was my primary focus. Therefore, I knew a lot of the iconic cards just by seeing them in Beckett and what not.

Needless to say, it was tough to focus. I did snap a few pictures, and figured it wouldn't be that tough to build a similar wall for my son. It was essentially just two pieces of plexiglass, with small horizontal plexiglass strips that served as shelves. The cards were no cheapies either. It was basically every iconic RC in basketball history.

Pretty freakin' sweet. I'd love one of just iconic Yankees cards, or iconic baseball cards in general.

  1. I've always wanted to put something like this togetehr with Griffey cards.

  2. I've never seen anything like that! They must have had those custom made. It's kinda weird that the cards aren't in holders though. Unless it's UV treated plexi or lexan, that can't be terribly good for the cards. Anyway, pretty awesome looking!

  3. I'm right there with you, basketball isn't really one of my sports, but that is a pretty sweet display. I'd love a Packer wall of awesome.

  4. Very sweet. If I ever did something like that I would be compelled to try to get 2 of each card so I could see the backs too. but maybe I'm just weird that way.

  5. I've been toying with the idea of doing a wall of cards for a couple of years now. I want to make is so I can place a cad in a top loader and then rest it on mini shelves attached to the wall. This way I could easily rotate the cards on and off the wall. Still trying to figure out how to do it.

  6. Wow. Very cool. If money wasn't an issue, I'd definitely love to cover my walls with key baseball rookie cards or even iconic vintage cards.
