I've been thinking that it would be pretty awesome to get one of my paintings or sketch cards signed by the subject. I would never send a painting through the mail, but sketch cards I don't mind. Pat Neshek is legendary for his role in the TTM hobby, so I decided to sit down and do two sketch cards to send to Mr. Neshek, hoping he'd sign one for me and keep one for himself. I sent both out earlier this week and hopefully will report back a success.
Here are the two cards I sent out. Not to toot my own horn, but these look a lot better in real life than in the scan. Not sure why they scanned so poorly. Anyhow, these were done pretty simply and quickly in pencil. I used the 1986 Topps design for one and the 1993 Upper Deck design for the other. I know that he is no longer with the Twins, but that's what I think of him as. Hope he doesn't mind.
I collected baseball cards from the late '80s through 2002. Then I went to college and when I came out, I was lost. There were too many brands, sets, choices, relics, autos, parallels, variations. It was a turn off. However, I slowly made my way back. So here is my attempt to venture back into the hobby. I'll buy a few packs of cards here and there, comment on some cards I have, send out some TTMs, and follow the progress of my Topps Yankees Project.
freaking sweet!! betcha he signs both and sends them back... he is an awesome TTM as well as a great player. I also think of him in the Twins uni but that's a "17" thing for me, really love that first card.
ReplyDeleteThose are very impressive. I'm sure you'll get one back with an autograph.
ReplyDeleteHe is great. I hope we'll be seeing one of these back soon.
ReplyDeleteYou know I had the exact same idea. Not just doing a sketch and having them sign it, but literally the same idea with the same player. I'd like to get Neshek to sign one for me too. I thought about doing two of them; one for him to keep and one for him to sign for me. I didn't like the sketch I did though, so I shelved the idea for the time being. You sketches look nice though. Good luck on the TTM
