As it's the off-season, my TTM successes have really slowed down. Part of it is me - I haven't sent many requests out lately. I've been busy preparing for the arrival of The Lost Collector Jr., due in about a week and a half. We've been preparing his living quarters and it doesn't leave much time for card or letters or the post office. The other part is that the off-season is historically pretty slow, unless you send to all retired players.
Anyhow, I sent out a lot of requests this year, so it's always nice to see a little white envelope role in after you've written it off or forgotten about it. My newest success is from Angels mega-prospect Mike Trout. He made his ML debut this year and was amongst the youngest players in the league. I do usually focus on Yankees for my TTMs, but here and there I send to some good young players in hopes of getting their autos before they get too popular to sign.
I actually sent this to Mike in care of his Arizona Fall League team, and it came back post-marked from NJ, so he is clearly catching up on his mail from home. It was a nice success to come home to after a long day of work, and I look forward to watching Trout develop over the next few years.
I collected baseball cards from the late '80s through 2002. Then I went to college and when I came out, I was lost. There were too many brands, sets, choices, relics, autos, parallels, variations. It was a turn off. However, I slowly made my way back. So here is my attempt to venture back into the hobby. I'll buy a few packs of cards here and there, comment on some cards I have, send out some TTMs, and follow the progress of my Topps Yankees Project.
I got him this year too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe there's still hope for the card I sent to the Arizona Fall League.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and good luck with the new addition to your family.
