Somehow, Gary Sanchez seems to have been forgotten. But I'm here to let you know he's still really good.
He had an insane finish to the 2016 season, as many remember. He put up numbers that would have been been great for a full season for most catchers - .299/.376/.657 with 20 HRs and 42 RBI in only 229 plate appearances.
His 2017 numbers? .283/.371/.524 with 13 HRs and 40 RBI in 213 plate appearances. That's really good! Keep in mind he missed about a month of the season with a DL trip. Also keep in mind he'll play all season at age 24.
So while Aaron Judge has taken the league by storm, somehow Sanchez has been a bit overshadowed. He's still putting up huge numbers. And he's still really good. And he's still quite young.
I just wanted to let you know.
I collected baseball cards from the late '80s through 2002. Then I went to college and when I came out, I was lost. There were too many brands, sets, choices, relics, autos, parallels, variations. It was a turn off. However, I slowly made my way back. So here is my attempt to venture back into the hobby. I'll buy a few packs of cards here and there, comment on some cards I have, send out some TTMs, and follow the progress of my Topps Yankees Project.
Gary is scary
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder! Looks to have a great career ahead of him.
ReplyDeleteYesterday, I was digging through some Topps Pro Debut cards I busted a while back... and came across Sanchez and Judge. Threw both of them into soft sleeves and added them to my box of rookie cards (even if they're not really rookie cards).
