I collected baseball cards from the late '80s through 2002. Then I went to college and when I came out, I was lost. There were too many brands, sets, choices, relics, autos, parallels, variations. It was a turn off. However, I slowly made my way back. So here is my attempt to venture back into the hobby. I'll buy a few packs of cards here and there, comment on some cards I have, send out some TTMs, and follow the progress of my Topps Yankees Project.

Prominent pinstripes, please
I have a decent amount of Yankee relics. Most are a plain gray swatch from a road jersey. Others are a navy blue mesh from spring training. The most uncommon, or rather highest in demand, are the ones with a nicely centered navy blue pinstripe. Sometimes, the stripe is off-centered or you can barely see it, which annoys me because it means no one really took the time to examine the card while it was being made.
I found this card on Listia and really liked the looks of it. The stripe is prominent, and I don't mind having Piazza on there. The 2000 season was crazy between the Yankees and Mets, and this is a good reminder. A version of this card exists for Piazza and Clemens, which is pretty cool too.

That's an awesome card! I hear you - the Yankees relics with a pinstripe on them are a level above.....and unfortunately, sellers usually know that. Buut, when I can snag one at a decent price, it's cool to bring it home!
ReplyDeleteI also love cards that tell a story - Piazza went 1 for 3 off of Pettitte in Game 1 of the Series and then went 2 for 4 off of Andy in Game 5, the final game, including a double in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Four innings later, Piazza would end the series with a pop fly to center field off of The Sandman, Mariano Rivera - though Pettitte would not factor into the decision.

I'll keep my eyes open for the Clemens/Piazza version.
