Maris! Finally.

Over the past two years, I've added a lot of Yankee legends to my collection. A '67 Topps Mantle. A '60 Topps Berra. Numerous Rizzutos. One slugger that eluded me was Roger Maris.

I finally picked up a Maris card, at a hell of a price. I got this 1966 Topps for $7. No creases or wrinkles. Sure, some fuzzy corners, and the centering isn't perfect. However, overall, the condition is really nice.

I won't say that 1966 is my favorite Topps design. It's a bit bland. But I love having a Maris, especially at this price.

What about you guys? Do any of you own an original Maris? Which ones?

  1. The '64 Maris is still one that I have to pick up in order to complete my set. The '66 you have AJ looks really nice though, and at $7 you can't go wrong! Nice pickup!!

  3. Welcome to the club, and that's a great price for it.

I've got '60-'61, '63, '66-'67 on Maris so far. 6 more to go. It's doable, but it'll take some time. His cards have actually come down to Earth a bit recently, which is kinda surprising given that he's the one with the untarnished single-season HR record. (Yeah, Ruth 'roided! You hear me?!)

What other major Yankees of that era and further back do you (and the other folks reading this) have so far?

I own Maris's '64 and '65 Topps cards, both are definite favorites in my collection.
