Napkin Doon > The Easter Bunny

I didn't get cards in my Easter Basket this year.

It's actually been hit or miss for me on this one. Every couple of years my wife has put a pack or two in the small baskets we fill for one another. But I knew that this year wouldn't stand a chance given the current situation at Target.

I haven't even been to Target in months, so I'm not sure what sort of policy mine currently has. But it's never been one to carry much inventory anyways, so I don't even bother. It's actually nice to not have any needs in life where I need to go to Target or Walmart.

But I don't need the Easter Bunny. I still have cards coming in, whether eBay purchases or excellent TCDB trades or other random mailings. For instance, right before the weekend, an unexpected PWE arrived from Napkin Doon himself, a guy perhaps even more mysterious than the Easter Bunny himself.

The PWE contained three very shiny cards, and excellent additions to my collection.
These Refractors are from 2010 Finest. I was not collecting then, so the design is new to me. I don't think I've come across any cards from this set before, so it's like seeing a brand new set for the very first time. You could have told me it was 2021 Finest and I would have believed you.

The other card joining these two:
Beautiful! 2020 Bowman Prospects Mojo Refractor (thanks to TCDB for helping me identify this card). I have a lot of Schmidts, but this is a new one. I wish the name "mojo" wasn't official, but it's ok. It's a good looking card.

So while the basket was filled with delicious treats, my cards came from elsewhere. And that's just fine with me!

Royal contest winnings

With the World Series starting tonight, I figured I’d show off a contest prize I won from Josh over at Royals and Randoms from his Baseball Sheep contest waaaaay back in the spring. I’m sure when Josh had this contest, he didn’t think he’d be getting ready to watch the Royals in the World Series on October 21..or reading a post about the winnings five months later. Oops.

As for the World Series, I can honestly say I don’t care who wins. I’d love for it to be a good, competitive series. Go American League and DH, I guess? Pitchers batting is dumb.

Moving on, here’s some of the winnings Josh sent me. I finished second in the contest. Not bad, eh? It was a big ‘ol box of cards I received, so here are some highlights.

We’ll start with the hits since you all hate base cards (kidding, kidding). A very cool jeter All-Star manupatch from Upper Deck. I didn’t know manupatches were being made so long ago. I thought it was a recent Topps thing.
Two more hits in the form of future Yankee first basemen Greg Bird (no, really), and a catcher they should have kept.

I like this Jeter Stadium Club, mid-bubble with a guest appearance by Cal Ripkin. Pretty cool.
I love it when unforgettable moments make it on cards. The ‘double stolen base’ by Johnny Damon in the 2009 World Series was so cool, and I’m glad it made it into this set.
There was NO SHORTAGE of vintage, which is always most appreciated. Let’s start off with Thurman Munson. I will never, ever say no to a vintage Munson card. How could you? Just look at that face!
Here’s a couple more, including a near-complete 1976 Topps team set. Freaking great stuff!
Thanks, Josh. Good luck in the World Series!

A&G relics are cool

I've wanted a Yankees framed A&G Relic for a long time, and I finally picked one up. I recently grabbed this Johnny Damon on eBay for $2.49 delivered. Great deal. Upon receiving the card, I even realized that there is a Pinstripe on it...you can barely see it, but it's there, mostly covered by the boarder. Pretty cool card!
