Trying to hold up my end of the bargain

Each Sunday, Johnny from Cards from the Quarry has been holding a PWE trade event. Usually he posts a card from each team, and all you have to do is claim it, and send him one back from his wantlist. Simple, right?

The problem I keep running into...he has every Rockies card known to man! I keep thinking I came across a good one - a numbered insert or a parallel from some random Bowman set no one bought. Then I check his wantlist...

Nope!

I have a stack of Rockies I've come across over the last few weeks, and each time I think I got a good one, I come up empty. Which makes me feel bad because I've been claiming away each week. And while he makes it easy by also requesting cards from teams he is low on for trade bait, I feel like I'm having a hard time keeping up my end of the bargain. Plus, I don't want to just send him cards of other teams!

So I'm continuing to scour my unsorted boxes in hopes I can finally land a few Rox for him. I did just send him an older Stadium Club First Day Issue I think he needed. But I'm still behind by a couple cards due to a few cards I claimed over the last few weeks:

The first was a nice Gary Sanchez Bowman parallel. Gary has gotten off to a good start so far, thank goodness. I'm kind of tired of hearing about his struggles, so I hope for his sake he has a huge few months and everyone can focus on other things, like why can't the Yankees score runs, why can't they stay healthy, why do they suck at situational hitting, and why on earth did they trade for Rougned Odor. I'd rather focus in all of that over Gary.

Another guy who is off to a slowish start...but at least he's on the field? Sad that that's the positive, but it's how it goes. As long as he is on the field, he'll put up numbers when all is said and done. Speaking of numbers, I couldn't turn down a low-numbered Giancarlo numbered to 50 from one of those expensive Topps sets!

Lastly, this isn't a card I needed, really. But Garrett Mitchell seems to have a bright future, and even if he never sniffs the bigs (unlikely...he showed in the spring he's not far off), he dates Haley Cruse. So I admire him quite a lot for that.

Look who Flew in

A great recent development in the card blogging world was the return of Rockies fan and blogger Johnny aka Hiflew, who runs Cards from the Quarry. His blog is very purply, and it's nice to see him come back into the fold. He's still been collecting and keeping his want lists up to date, and has found a lot of success selling on SportLots.

No matter, seeing him come back has been fun, and we've stirred up a few minor trades when we posts his PWE trade bait. It's always fun because he includes cards from mostly every team that are up for grabs.

Hiflew and I go way back, to the point where when he confirmed my address for our latest trade, it was an address I had THREE addresses and a lifetime ago. 

I sent him a few Rockies he didn't have, and in return, these cool numbered Yanks showed up:

That's Hall of Famer Mike Mussina /50, as well as a super shiny Miguel Andujar from Donruss. Perfect cards for some cards I has laying around, including a hard-to-find 2011 red parallel that Hiflew needed. Simple, effective trade. Everyone wins.

A new Tino courtesty of Cards from the Quarry

A few weeks back our favorite Rockies collector, Johnny from Cards from The Quarry, reached out about having a Tino I would be interested in. He said he was going to post it to his blog and to keep a watch out. I was looking forward to seeing what it was!

Fast forward to this past Saturday, I got a package in the mail from Johnny. Hmmm, wasn't expecting anything. Lo and behold, he sent me the Tino he had emailed about. It's a beauty - a 2002 Leaf Rookies & Stars Longevity #'d 60/100! A Tino numbered this low is always a big hit in my book, and I didn't have this card, so it was an awesome gesture. Johnny also threw in three Yankees Heritage cards that I needed.

Trade Review: Cards for the Quarry #2

In my second trade with Mr. Hiflew of Cards From The Quarry, I sent Johnny a stack of Rockies for some 2011 Heritage Yankees. I know I'm close to having the Yanks team set completed. In the next few days I'll list out what I still need - it should only be a few cards, as Johnny put a major dent in it with this nice little package:

I might use the Eduardo Nunez for TTM, so I'll be on the look out for a spare one of those. Johnny also threw in an AJ Burnett Upper Deck Icons. Such a great looking set. Thanks, Johnny!

Trade Review: Cards from the Quarry

Johnny from Cards from the Quarry and I have been working on a trade for a while. He pulled some nice Yankees Tristar Prospects Plus cards, and I had a few Rox for him, as well as some needs from his 2011 Opening Day wantlist. Since we completed this trade, we've actually agreed to another, so stay tuned for that.

The prospects cards are nice. The best of the bunch is an Austin Jackson #'d 3/25, even though he is no longer in the Yanks organization. There was also a Corban Joseph #1/50, Ray Kruml die-cut #'d 14/50, and card featuring Mikey O'Brien, Brandon Braboy and Pat Venditte #'d 1/25. Corban's bat will get him to the majors one day. Kruml is likely a career minor leaguer, but the die-cut is cool. The tri-card is interesting. Venditte is the famous switch-pitcher who has thrown well at every level, but most think he won't ever touch the majors. Mikey O'Brien has a great arm and has battled injuries, but he is a candidate for a big year. Despite the low #'s, I'll probably use a few of these for TTM.

Also included were a few other Yanks. The 2008 UD Authentics are gorgeous cards. I think the white looks really classy. I also needed the Opening Day Swisher.
