SuperTraders #22: Cardboard Clubhouse

I've vowed to try and catch up on trade packages and clean out the scanned folder this week.

I'll start with a #SuperTraders package I got from Adam of the Cardboard Clubhouse. Prior to SuperTraders, I don't think I had the pleasure of swapping cardboard with Adam, so this is certainly one of the intended purposes of the group.

Adam is a big Halloween fan, and sent me some treats just before October 31, placing me about a month behind showing these off.

One of the greatest treats was an unopened Yankees 1993 Stadium Club team set. I had received a few of these cards in various trades, but definitely didn't have the complete set in one place. Now I do. Love that Brien Taylor led off things off. Man, what could have been...

I haven't busted this thing out of the plastic wrap yet, but I'm sure I will for storing purposes. It's too bulky!

There was also a ton of '70s vintage! Some cards I definitely didn't have, and some that will undoubtedly be used for some TTMs. It's kind of crazy that I still get taken aback when vintage falls out of trade package, but it hasn't lost its luster on me at all. These were also in really nice condition.

Of course, there was also a mixture of new cards too. I seem to receive less and less A&G every year, and since I don't really buy the product myself, I appreciate what is sent my way. This foil-stamped mini McCann 10th Anniversary is pretty cool, even though he's now an Astro!

Lastly, I thought this year's Pro Debut cards looked really nice. I actually liked the blues of this card more than the Yankees regular flagship design. Degano had a pretty horrid season and went from someone who looked like a stellar prospect to someone who couldn't find the plate. He had 34 BBs in 27 innings. Weird how that happens. Maybe he can straighten it out a bit this season. I'm pulling for the guy, as he seems like a good dude and is a great TTM signer.

Adam, thanks again for all these great cards. Halloween is only 11 months away!

SuperTraders #6: Infield Fly Rule

Man, the #SuperTraders packages are rolling in faster than I can keep up. I will say that I've been spending some time each night organizing cards by team in hopes of sending packages soon. One of you is also getting a 1998 Donruss Crusade, but that's all I'll say.

Package #6 comes from Adam over at Infield Fly Rule. I have a decent amount of Rockies laying around, so Adam will be getting his fair share in return.

For some reason, this Brien Taylor card jumped out at me. I know most of you are familiar with his story. Lefty, threw 100, was picked first overall by the Yankees, was a top prospect in all of baseball, but got hurt in a bar fight and derailed his career.

We tend to prospect hug so much and are so aware of top prospects now, I can't imagine what Taylor's story would have been like in today's world, especially with social media. It would be crazy newsworthy. Seriously.

Anyhow, Adam sent me some other cool stuff from the past. I have honestly never seen this Mattingly Bowman.

Mike Stanley looks extra nerdy here, but man that guy was good for the Yanks. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for helping to turn the team around in the early '90s. His helmet also says #65, but he only wore #20 with the Yanks.

JBF Epic Boxes: The End*

*because I've since received two more epic packages from Jaybarkerfan's Junk. 

Anyhow, this will be the finish of the two flat rate boxes from a few months ago. These were a blast to go through, and netted me a ton of awesome cards.

Pack 15

This is a cool Stadium Club Members Only team set card of Brien Taylor. Most of the set was in fact here, but I'm showing the "what could have been" Taylor. Not a bad design, although the gold chips easily.

Collector's Choice brings me back. It was my favorite set as a kid...affordable, cool inserts, parallels that weren't too obnoxious, and good designs. I miss these. They represented summer for me.

This has a crease, but I don't care. It's a sweet Jimmy Dean '92 oddball.

And the card of the pack? How could this SWEET ASS UltraPro hologram not be the card of the pack? There is just so much to this card.

Eric Hinske looks exactly like The King of Queens, right? Right?

Two sweet Mattinglys. Holy crap, look at that Select '95 Big Sticks. It's on fiyaaaahhh.

The final card of the pack? A Tino relic, baby! Can't end any better than that!

And there you have it! Almost 600 hundred cards between the two boxes. Wes, you are the man!

JBF Epic Boxes: Pack 7

Let's show off another pack from the Jaybarkerfan Epic Boxes!

Let's start with two PC guys. I have both of these cards, but always love pulling cards of guys I collect. Two Topps flagship cards...can't so wrong.

I really like this Yogi! It's a photo I feel like I haven't many times, and the Noteworthy design is pretty cool.

A Brien Taylor Bowman gold foil RC! In the early '90s, this would have made me big bucks! I've mentioned it a few times as well, but I love these Denny's holograms. We have a family friend who used to always spoil me with a few packs of these every week.

This next card is awesome, although I'm sure at the time it wasn't quite as frowned upon as it might be now. The 60 HR Club. Will we ever see another player join it?

And the card of the pack?? A hit!! A Sterling Hitchcock jersey card, complete with a pinstripe (barely).

Here we go with team bag #4 of the Jaybarkerfan Epic Boxes! What will this team bag entail?

Brien Taylor minor league cards! He was supposed to be one of the best lefties ever. That didn't pan out, did it? Given his character and questionable make up, he probably would have ended up being a PC guy for me. See, Tino Martinez and Michael Pineda.

A Shane Spencer Bowman RC, which for some reason, always eluded me. Also, Fleer Metal. Holy crap. Fleer Metal, please come back. I'm not even joking a little. Who doesn't need pitchers breaking through stone walls?

And the card of the pack? Yep, for the second straight pack, a Don Mattingly oddball!
