TTM Success: Andrew Bailey

For a while, Andrew Bailey was one of the best relievers in baseball. He was the 2009 AL Rookie of the Year, and made the All-Star team in both 2009 and 2010. I was nervous when the Red Sox acquired him, figuring he'd be a staple in their 'pen for years. Injuries and a few surgeries got the best of him, and Boston never really got to see the Bailey that Oakland had.

In spring training, Bailey signed a 2-year deal with the Yanks, knowing that he'd miss most of this season rehabbing his shoulder. He could potentially help this season, although I'd expect him to be a bigger piece of the puzzle next year.

Figuring that he was rehabbing at the Yankees Tampa minor league complex, I took a shot and sent him two cards - albeit Red Sox cards - and he promptly returned them in about two weeks time. You'll notice Topps re-used the same photo. Shocking, I know. I only need one of these, so I'll probably send one to my buddy Mark H for him or his grandson. Here are the cards, sorry for the bad scans:

Hopefully I can get one of these next year with Bailey in a Yanks uniform! In the meantime, best of luck in your rehab, Mr. Bailey, and I'll see you in the Bronx!
