Congrats to Mo Rivera and Dante Bichette Jr!

A few congrats are in order I'd say! First off, Mariano Rivera recorded career save #600. The man has done his job better than anyone else for a very long time. It was kind of cool to see three future first-ballot HOFers involved in the last play of the game to secure #600...Rivera the pitch, Jeter the tag and Ichiro the out. With about two weeks left in the season, there should be enough time for Mo to tie and pass Trevor Hoffman at 601 and 602, respectively.

Also, congrats to Dante Bichette Jr, the Yanks #1 pick this year (#51 overall because of the horrible Rafael Soriano deal). He quickly signed and was assigned to the Gulf Coast League. Yesterday, Bichette was named the GCL MVP (sounds like something from Jersey Shore) after posting a line of .342/.446/.505. Not bad for a kid fresh out of high school. Many draft analysts said he was a reach at #51, but the Yanks liked him and grabbed him and so far, he is off to a great start. Let's see if he can keep it up at Staten Island or maybe even Charleston next year. Oh, and Topps, please issue a card of him in Pro Debut Series 2...because he actually made his debut this year.

The Staten Island Yankees also won the NYPL championship last night - their 6th title in the last 10 years. Pretty good, no? Bichette actually got called up and played in a few games for them at the end of the season, but the regulars played throughout the playoffs. A few names to watch from this roster: Mason Williams, Cito Culver, Angelo Gumbs and Tyler Austin.

  1. The Staten Island Yankees are a sore point with the few baseball fans who are left up in Watertown here. The owners bought the team and moved them out of Watertown (while being very coy about it) to Staten Island.
